2022 has been a big year for Fettle Foundry as we released three typefaces – the culmination of almost two years of work. We're really proud of what we've achieved, but we're not done yet. Here are our plans for the rest of the year...
We have another typeface due for release before the end of 2022: Rodley. Rodley started as a re-drawing of our first ever typeface, Bairne, but soon took on a life of its own, turning into something completely new while still being Bairne's spiritual successor. You can learn more about it here.
While we're on the subject of Bairne, we currently have no plans to re-release it in the near future. Upon revisiting it for Rodley, we decided that we were no longer happy with the quality of it compared to our newer fonts. We may revisit it again someday, but for now that idea has been parked.
Humber, Barmby and Thorngumbald
All of our typefaces from 2022 will be receiving some updates and post launch improvements, including additional glyphs for extra language support and OpenType features to accompany the new glyphs.
These updates will be rolling out over the next few months. If you've purchased a license for any of these typefaces you'll be notified of the updates through the vendor from which you made your purchase, and all updated files will be free to download for existing license holders. We'll announce these updates on our social media channels, so if you don't already follow Fettle Foundry on Instagram or Twitter, now would be a good time to start. You'll find all of the latest news about releases and, in the case of Twitter, get an insight into the dog videos that we've liked.
If you've been using our typefaces and found any performance issues you would like us to address, please feel free to contact us with your suggestions. We test all of our typefaces as much as possible before release, but nothing is infallible and if anything has slipped through the cracks we'd love to hear about it. It will only make our process stronger, and our future fonts even better.
Looking forward to 2023
We have a few irons in the fire in terms of new typefaces, which will see us expanding our offering beyond sans-serif typefaces. We're really excited about these and looking forward to sharing more when we can.
Lastly, we just wanted to say thank you to anyone that has been using our typefaces. Seeing the positive response to our work is truly humbling – especially during a year that has been very big for us in terms of getting up and running properly. Also, if you want to share any work that you have made with our fonts, feel free to contact us and let us know or tag us on social media. We're more than likely to share your work there and here on our website.
